Herbal Courses

Herbal Medicine Making Days

Courses are held at Castle Orchard, near Ledbury, Herefordshire HR8 2RH. They begin at 10.00am and end at 4.00pm. Numbers are kept to a maximum of 6 people per course.
 
All materials (jars ,bottles, wax, oils, dried & fresh herbs) are included in the cost of the course. If you would like more information please ring Rowan.

Cost includes all materials, vegetarian lunch, drinks and cakes.
 
These practical courses will enable participants to make herbal remedies from fresh and dried herbs.
 
Included will be:
  • The basic principles of herbal medicine and self help guidelines
  • Identification, growing, harvesting, drying and storage of herbs
  • Cosmetic and medicinal preparations such as teas, tinctures, inhalations, baths, rubs, ointments, creams, syrups and infused oils.
  • Exploration and harvesting of herbs from my own organic garden at Castle Orchard.
  • The hands on approach aims to increase your confidence in and knowledge of the use of herbs for healing. You will go away with at least two herbal preparations that you have helped to make and lots of ideas for more!

    Booking & Enquiries

    Bookings are taken on a first come, first served basis. Provisional bookings can be made by telephone or email and can normally be held for three days, awaiting confirmation on the attached booking form together with £50.00 deposit.
     
    N.B The remainder of the course fee should be paid 30 days prior to the course date.

    Cancellations

    The deposit (minus a £5 administration charge) will be refunded if a written cancellation is received at least 30 days before the start of the course. Otherwise the course fee will not be refunded unless that place can be filled.

    Examples of typical courses

    The edible garden - create your own herb garden.
     
    Feed your senses and your spirit by growing your own food, cosmetic and medicinal herbs in your own kitchen and medicinal herb garden.  Have fresh herbal ingredients for culinary feasts, delicious teas and a wide range of herbs for a healthy home growing on your doorstep!  This day will include: choosing what to grow, design, soil types, cultivation tips, propagating, pruning and harvesting, and plant hardiness. A range of herb plants will be available to buy.
     
    Herbal Medicine Making Day
     
    This practical one day course will enable you to make herbal remedies from fresh and dried herbs. It will include:
    • The basic principles of herbal medicine and self help guidelines
    • Identification, growing, harvesting, drying and storing herbs
    • Cosmetic and medicinal preparations such as teas, tinctures, inhalations, baths, rubs, ointments, creams, syrups and infused oils.

    Natural Medicine for Children : treating children with herbs
     
    Learn about what herbal remedies are safe for your children and how best to give them. Will cover most common childhood ailments including infectious diseases, fever management, conjunctivitis, travel sickness, tummy bugs, hayfever, eczema, and the herbal first aid chest.
     
    Herbs for Women - focusing on womens health
     
    A day to gain confidence and knowledge about herbs that are especially useful in a range of womens health problems  Herbs helpful for period problems, menopause, pregnancy and childbirth, cystitis, and other conditions will be discussed.
